In a year now past - of troubles and turmoil, so many loved ones across the globe have sacrificed their lives for the freedom and safety of others. It is time for the world to shed hatred, deceit, pain and suffering on others. Consideration of cultural values, ethics and moral rights need to be understood. Invasion of lands, personal space and the feelings of others are not to be trodden on - for the sake of greed and personal gain.

We are not living in the dark ages; we are a modern and evolving race who fully understand the consequences of overpowering and manipulating others - societal habits, businesses and countries who are set on sucking our planet dry for their own benefit, obliterating other species and all that is good in the world.

Now is the time to think - how does your presence in another’s life, affect them? How can I pick up the broken pieces of this world and make it better? We maybe one small snail existing among the great and powerful, but a band of caring snails can restore our garden of Eden.

Make this the first day for change!

It is a sad day for the people of Ukraine and indeed the rest of the world watching on, as Russia - yet again, demonstrates its distaste in the existence of the human race.

War on such a level, not only endangers the Ukrainian region and its closest neighbours, but puts at risk - like CoVid - the rest of the world. To let loose such devastating weaponry on any country and their population is a direct violation of the Geneva convention and yet, the world watches on as if this will never affect them directly.

Covid was airborne, and the world thought it would never grow and spread to the scale it has; now it is too late, and we must all live with the consequences of no one stepping in to regulate overuse and abuse of research in the name of human growth and advancement. Admittedly, the world has come to the decision that the pandemic came about by human error and by all accounts was a mistake, but we are paying a very high price.

The release of thermite rain bombs​ on Ukraine will be just as insanely dangerous to the human race when it enters our water system. Our world has no idea what this will do to the planet when it is used in such high concentrations and whether or not the planet and its inhabitants, will ever recover. Do we have to wait until it affects all of us before the UN council and world leaders take a stand against Russia?

This is no accident or mistake governed by human error. This is blatant disregard for human life and violates rights of all beings, residing on this planet. We cannot wait any longer. A year or more of unwarranted suffering to a country of people just minding their own business, is ludicrous.

Racist annihilation of Jews in WW1 very much comes to mind - this is no different. Have we not learned from the mistakes of past errors? Are we not above such petty arguments of dictatorships wanting to rule the planet? ...who by all accounts, should never be left to their own devices.

This war serves no purpose. It weakens Russia's ability to look after itself - pushes Russia into a corner where no one will ever want to deal with them again and therefore their ability to survive is nil. Russia, therefore, feels it has no other choice than to use condemned war tactics against Ukraine in order to 'win'... Whether or not it survives is irrelevant to government, only saving face and winning is now on the cards.

Russia feels it has lost too much 'face' and can only be 'heroic' in the eyes of its people if it annihilates Ukraine.
Poor Ukraine however, in wanting to stop their suffering, requests more and more global assistance, which they should have. Yet, it only extends the war and suffering on their people. Ukraine is no less deserving of a peaceful life than the rest of us. Why should the world carry on as if it doesn't affect them?

Global leaders should have put a stop to this, months ago - way before any of this pain and suffering came about. This is not 1914; it is 2023 and we should know better! Such playground bullies have no rights on our planet and should not be given preferential treatment, just because dealing with them is difficult. They will only grow to become more difficult to manage in the long run. They must learn to grow and respect all beings - including their own people, for whom they show little regard.

It's time to take a stand - this war has to end. Enough is enough!

Today was Earth Day, and with all the action happening across the world in our preoccupation with CoVid19, I am sure there were many who also missed this wonderfully, poignant day.

There are so many reasons to stand up and take notice of today - for all the years this day has stood for the protection, understanding and due care of our planet - for what this day should mean to all of us, today is and was above all, one of the most important of celebrations in history.

In our world, where Mother Nature has taken her toll of misery over the years – of endless pollution and disrespect of all the gifts and treasures she selflessly provides to us all - now in the weeks of our own misery inflicted on us as a global species, Mother Nature has called the shots and now fights back for all she has endured over the years - prior and after the epic day of April 23rd 1970, when humans came together to assist her in her fight for survival.  

We saw protests across the globe; hundreds of thousands of people demonstrating in Philadelphia Union Square; over 260 individuals cycling down the main street of Philadelphia and thousands more jam-packed into New York.  All the way down 42nd street to Central Park, individuals demonstrated on Mother Nature’s behalf. Over 20 million people demonstrated across America alone. This was truly a historic day that called for the implementation of a Clean Air Act across the globe - an act that would prohibit industries from unscrupulous behaviour and their continued production of excessive CO2, nitrous oxide, methane and carbon emissions; one that compelled governments, businesses and individuals to take stock of their actions and make drastic changes for the betterment of mankind.

Today marks the 50th Anniversary of that very necessary Act, and while we suffer like never before – Mother Nature has for the first time in history, had a reprieve from our abuse.

With so many of our species ill, or on the lookout for CoVid19, the streets across the globe are barren, transport is void, emissions are at an all time low, and our skies enjoy miraculous clean air and breath-taking sunsets - like never before.  Eight out of ten flights globally have been cancelled and given the marked reduction of fuel consumption, oil production sits just under, $40 a barrel.

Although this Act was put into play in America and onlooking countries rallied together to quickly follow suit, the collective idea of significantly reducing emissions in the coming years - some by 90%, fell way short of the bar.  Today, we are still struggling. 

Mr. Michael Gerrard – Environmental Law Expert at Columbia University states, “How people react to the return of normalcy after the pandemic will help define the crises wrecking the environment…A key question will be, do we have a green recovery, do we seize the opportunity to create jobs in renewable energy and in making coastlines more resilient to climate change?” he said. “The current US President clearly has no inclination to do this.” 

Sadly, the US was more interested in offering a $25 billion bail out to the oil and gas industry, to help prop up air travel.  In Australia, we too have followed suit, taking economic measures to retain the airline status quo, without thinking about the ramifications on our planet. 

Earth Day couldn’t be a bigger reminder to think about what’s right.  And if that doesn’t beat all, we have two more calendared reminders to make sure we act responsibly - Arbour Day and Anzac Day.  Our trees are the breath that gives Mother Nature sustenance, and our ANZACs remind us to not only honour our past, but to honour our future – one that we can be equally as proud of.
